I've Been Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

  • Oct. 28th, 2009 at 5:30 PM
Psych
I feel like my life is full of waiting.

Waiting for the bus, waiting in traffic, waiting for a package, waiting for Thanksgiving, waiting for the rain to stop, waiting until I get accepted into IDP, waiting for junior year, waiting for Oxford, waiting for dinner, waiting for pages to load, waiting in lines, waiting for texts, waiting for classes to start, waiting for classes to end, waiting for "regularly schedule programming", waiting for the commercials to end, waiting for friends, waiting for weekends, waiting for sleep, waiting to come, wanting to go, waiting to get to "the point", waiting for it all to make sense.

And eventually, waiting to die. (not like I want to. I'm just sayin'...it's going to happen.)

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

Waiting for MORE!

And you know what?

I FOOKIN' HATE WAITING!

Today's "Deep Thoughts with Larissa" brought to you by the letter R, for rain that never stops. And by the Phillies and Steve Lopez....two more things I'm waiting for. Endlessly waiting...

Love is the End

  • Aug. 1st, 2009 at 1:26 PM
Wombats
Song: Love is the End
Artist: Keane
Album: Perfect Symmetry
Spoilers: Series 1 and 2, days 1 and 4 of CoE, and the radio play, "The Dead Line"
Warnings: Might need a tissue or two...

Notes: Like I said, this was supposed to be a Tosh/Owen video, but I didn't have enough any clips of them. So now it's a Janto video, following their short and devastatingly broken relationship in series 3. Also shows flashbacks to how their relationship progressed in the first two series.

AHH! CURSE YOU RTDDDDD! )

Comments/feedback/whatever is lovely.

I Can Haz Angst Plzkthanx?

  • Jul. 31st, 2009 at 11:50 PM
Janto
I find it ironic that when I'm rather cheery and life is looking good, I find myself being creatively angsty. Like, more so than usual. So this idea has been kicking around in my head for quite a bit- making a fanvid for Jack and Ianto to the song "Love is the End" by Keane. Every time I hear the song it breaks my heart.

Originally, in my grand master plan of "IMMA MAKE A FANVID FOR EVERY SONG ON 'PERFECT SYMMETRY'!" I was going to have this be a song for a Tosh/Owen video. Buuut, I didn't really have any Tosh/Owen clips on my computer and I realized it was going to be too much effort for lazy ol' me to try and find that many clips. So then I changed my mind and decided it would be a Jack/Ianto video, but at the time I thought of it, it was too soon after The Day That Shall Not Be Spoken Of and my heart broke a little more.

But now, a week later (and I STILL haven't watch episode 5. It's not worth it though. From what I know, it's shit with too much angst) I was prefectly content to go off and do it. And it's amazing. I don't like to toot my own horn often, but this video definitely deserves it. I only used clips (well, with two exceptions) from series 3 and I was a freaking audio wizard. *pats self on back*.

I'm sure it'll make you cry, tear up, or, at the very least, want to go hug a kitten or something to feel better. But you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see it. It's late and I'm tired and I've spent so long working on it I want to wait until the morning to re-look it over with fresh eyes before uploading it. It's worth the wait, trust me.

AHHH!!

I want to have a name that'll last through college. So as much as I want a witty user name, I don't because I don't want to be this 20-something with a username I thought was fantastic now.

God, I'm too rational.

Still thinking/taking suggestions, but I'll probably wind up with one of the first two, or number 7/8.

Half Blood Prince Review FULL!

If you know the plot of the book, than you're good as far as spoilers go (at least major ones). If not, have you been living under a rock?

I'm going to tell you straight up that I liked this film. I'm just going to tear it to shreds now and nit-pick at all the inconsistencies between the book and movie because that's what all true HP nerds do.

Ok, so, first of all, the beginning. Not a fan. At all. It's not that it didn't match the book, it was just...stupid. I understand why they flashed back to the end of the battle at the Ministry, to show the viewer where Harry is emotionally at that point, but then it does at 360 and flashes the logo, which should have been epic with Hedwigs theme blasting, but nooo....OH! But I love, love, loved the way the Death Eaters flew out of the Dark Mark. I love the way the Death Eaters/ Order Members fly around and the contrast between the black and white. It's one of my favorite scenes in the 5th movie when they all sweep in at the Ministry. Anyway...the bridge gets attacked and then it back to Harry in some sandwich shop hitting on a waitress that wasn't even that pretty. That just makes him look horny and cheap. And then Dumbledore shows up and stares at a billboard with some seductive woman on it. Um, HELLO! HE'S GAY! *headdesk*

"You've been restless this summer Harry."
"I like riding trains. Keeps my mind off of things."

Was I the only one who had a flashback to the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime where what'shisface goes and rides around on the trains? And just he way he said it too...weird.

So then Harry and Dumbledore disapparate, which I thought the way they did that was really neat. The whole scene with Slughorn was well done and what I pictured in my head when I read the scene in the book. However, i didn't like the fact that Dumbledore jumped dumped Harry at the Burrow. Oh! Also didn't like the landscape around the Burrow! It's supposed to be hilly and verdant and there's supposed to be a cute little garden...not grain. BUT! I loooved the scene where Ginny finds Harry's stuff and the bit at on the staircase. Brilliant and really well done.

Loved Weasley's Wizarding Wheeze, so cool! Wish it was longer though because it was that good. Didn't like the scene of the trio going to Bourgin and Burke's though. All wrong!

Hogwarts Express- Malfoy and lot should have had own compartment, but other than that, no complaints. OMG, ha! As upset as I was that Tonks wasn't around enough and didn't find Harry on the train, I loooved Luna in that scene. The fact that she was right about that wracksprots and that's how she found Harry, brilliant.

Ron/Hermonie/Ginny scene in the Great Hall waiting for Harry was funny. Loved that Ginny was so concerned about Harry. "He's covered in blood. Why is he always covered in blood?" And the overly bloody hankerchief was bad continuity, but whatevs. Loved Harry and Ron watching all the first years trying to get to class. What upperclassman doesn't love doing that and making fun of the underclassmen?! "Take Mr. Weasley with you. He looks too happy."

Potions: first of all, Ron wanted to take potions, but again, whatevs, I'll let that pass. And then the class size was supposed to be12 kids, again, letting it slide but it still irked me. OH! AND THE FELIX FELICIOUS WASN'T GOLD! WTF?! Slughorn was brilliant though. Loved him.

Loved Quidditch. Loved Cormac. (Goregous!) Loved Ron. Loved Luna's lion hat (its eyes were the best bit). And, surprisingly, I didn't mind the Hermonie breakdown. I don't think it was something her book character would have ever done, because she's this very independent, strong witch, but Harry saying "it feels like this" *ugh* I swooned.

I thought the whole Draco/Harry rivalry was really downplayed. That's like, the central theme in the book. Also, didn't like the fact that everyone knew about the vanishing cabinets. The whole point was that no one knew what Malfoy was doing! Lame.

What else?

I liked the Pensive scenes, even though we're now on Pensive numero three. Wasn't a fan of this version. I liked how it was like ink dropping in and forming the memory, very clever. I wish there was more though and general more discussion between Harry and Dumbledore because that's the main bit of the book- learning about Voldemorts past and I thought that was really poorly done in the movie. They barely talk about the Horcruxes, which is just stupid because how is Harry going to know what the heck to do in the next movie? Dumbledore told him what to look for in the book, whereas in the movie, Harry's just left with the fake Horcux and that's it. He's like, "I have to find them and destroy them" but how is he supposed to? That's the biggest problem I had with the movie. There wasn't enough emphasis on the Horcruxes.

Attack at the Burrow was unessicary and stupid. *runs through grain field* *heavy breathing* *Death Eaters set house on fire* LAME! But I like that Ginny ran after Harry. Stupid, but understandable.

I realllly didn't like the fact that Ginny hides Harry's potions book. The point was that Harry would remember the goblin bust with the wig and tiara, aka the Diadem, aka A FUCKING HORCRUX! Yet another example of the downplay of the Horcruxes. *headdesk* (Although I hope this means that Ginny will be fighting Harry at the end of the movie. *fingers crossed*)

The lake scene was good. I was worried that it'd be cheesy, but it can read that way in the book. But, to his credit, Gambon did a good job. Surprising, I know. Didn't like the Astronomy tower though. Harry would have never stayed under it, hence why Dumbledore had to hex him to make him stay put. And then Snape walks in and is like "Shh!" and Harry doesn't do anything! WTF? The slow motion fall though was a bit over the top.

Furthermore, the battle-that-should-have-happened-but-didn't ticked me off. I get why Bella was there, but Harry just running after them all with Bella destroying the Great Hall didn't have the same impact as the book did. Left much to be desired.

I thought the whole reaction to Dumbledores death was really touching and the final symbolism of the three of them at the end was really well done.  And I don't think it was cheesy at all, at least it was no more cheesier than the rest of the HP endings. (Clapping for Hargid and freeze frame on Harry's fucking face as he flys away on his Firebolt? You really want to tell me that was worse than this ending? If you say yes then you're on crack.)

Oh! The humor bits were fantastic in the movie. "She has nice skin..." Pinchers and poof! "Did you and Ginny do it then?" Looooooved it!

Non movie related, I loved ranting about Torchwood and He-Who-Shall-Be-Murdered-By-Janto-Fangirls before the movie. And getting creeped on by fat boys in argyle hoodies with bad hair and fugly face piercings. Good times.

Also making me insanely happy? The fact that it's kicking ass at box offices. SUCK IT SPARKLES! WIZARDS WILL ALWAYS PWN VAMPIRES! SUCK. IT!

So I know I bitched and moaned a lot, but I actually did enjoy it. The only problem I really had with the whole movie was the fact that there wasn't enough emphasis on the Horcruxes, because that was what the book was all about. That's what sets up the next book/ movie(s). However, the same guy wrote the screenplay that wrote all the previous ones, so I trust him. He knows what he's doing. And I trust David Yates because the 5th movie was fantastic (and my favorite) so I'm looking forward to the next two. They should be epic.

I'd give it a 87%. Felt a bit rushed at the ending. No battle at the end. Not enough Horcrux explanation. But that aside, very good movie. I'll probably go see it another 3 times. You should too.

Half Blood Prince Review

I'll expand on these thoughts when it's not 3:38 in the morning.

1. Loved the Harry/Ginny relationship, but the kiss was a disappointment. Ron's line afterwords though...priceless!
2. Astronomy tower scene was...meh. I doubt Harry would have listened to Dumbledore like that. Hence why he was jinxed in the book. I didn't like the fact that he was under it, and then Snape comes and is like, "shh" and Harry doesn't do anything.
3. Not battle scene at Hogwarts. Really? That's the big climax! AND! There was no Bill, which I guess explains how they're able to cut the wedding scene in the next film. Lame.
4. The pensive scenes/ Horcrux explanation left much to be desired. I felt like there should have been more. The way they left it, I have no idea how Harry's going to be able to figure them all out by himself. At least in the book Dumbledore told him what to look for before he left.
5. Felt at bit rushed at the end.
6. Harry's suspicion of Draco was really downplayed. And I wasn't crazy about how they just came about the vanishing cabinets.

All that aside however, I thought that it was really good. And they're definitely getting better as they go.

OH! And 7. No Harry/Ginny breakup? (Not that I mind) That was like, a major moment at the end!

Have A Dance, Have a Drink

Brace yourself America, Russell T. Davies is coming.

A week a ago I would have been thrilled. I would have flown to LAX to personally greet him at the airport. But now I want to go to LAX and throw tomatoes at him until he goes back to the UK. FUCK YOU RUSSELL! *ugh* I can't even put into works how I feel about him right now. I was reading comments over at another LJ site, and most of them are pretty suspicious of the move. Most seem to think he fucked up Torchwood because he's leaving, like a "I'm breaking all of my toys so you can't play with them" attitude. Which I think is spot on. The article I was reading about him leaving can't even confirm that Torchwood will be back for a fourth season. I can't honestly say I'd watch it if it came back. And not just because Ianto's dead (although that's a big chuck). How exciting will it be to see Jack and Gwen run all over the place? It wouldn't. In fact, it'd be so lame they'd have negative viewers. But then, after someone pointed it out, I felt really bad for John Barrowman, because he loved being Captain Jack. But he's already insanely well-off and popular in everything else he's doing, so I'm not worried about him. And, when it comes down to it, he was Captain Jack for as long as David Tennant was the Doctor. I just fear I may never see Gareth David-Lloyd again, which breaks my heart because he was gorgeous and amazing and the Welsh love of my life. (I could really care less about Eve Myles. I'm sure she's a lovely person but Gwen made me want to kill babies, so good riddance I say!)

If you think about it, Russell's killing off all of his characters before he leaves. Ianto's dead. The Doctor's going to die. Can't he just leave well enough alone and say "...and they all lived happily ever after"? People want happy endings!

AARRGHH!

Moving on....
NEW LAYOUT! I finally figured out how to customize the background and I'm pleased with it...for the moment. Plus it has a little more wombatage, so that makes me a little more happy. (man, you really risk poor grammar for the sake of having having "parallel" structure. fail)

Between reading Harry Potter and sleeping, I've been kicking around a few ideas in my head, the first of which was a sequel/outtake from "After Saving the World". It's mapped out in my head, so hopefully, it'll be easy to get from brain to screen. But that even sounds to easy, so I'm sure it'll be a pain to write.* Moreover, once I get around to finding/downloading Torchwood/Doctor Who episodes, I'll be making moar videos! WOO! Here's the list I have so far (I don't know why I'm writing this. Even I don't care)

-"The Lovers are Losing" (Keane)- Tosh/Owen
-"Exterminate, Regenerate" (Chameleon Circuit)- Doctor Who
-"Obviously" (McFly)- Tosh/Owen
-"It's all about you" (McFly)- Tosh/Owen or Ianto/Jack, not sure yet.
- "Love is the End"- Tosh/Owen. Although, if I really wanted to make people cry, I'd wait until I see CotE and make it Jack/Ianto. (Maybe not. Just the idea is breaking my heart...)

I'm sure they'll be more, especially once I get my hands on CotE footage (*sigh*). Oh, and I haven't forgotten about the remainder of my icons. I'm just too lazy/unmotivated to do them.

Anyway, that's all for now. Going to go caccoon myself in Harry Potterness. Best wishes!

*edit:// I. Can. Not. Write. Happy. *bangs head on desk* I think I'm try too hard at trying writing the Doctor and I have like 50 little pieces written that aren't connecting. Heeeeeelllllllllllllppppppppp. And now that I've started, I can't let it die. Then again, it can't be helping that I'm attempting to write this at 1 in the morning...

After Saving the World

Title: After Saving the World
Pairing: Jack/Ianto
Rating: G
Authors notes: This idea has been kicking around my brain since I attempted to fall asleep last night, consumed in grief and thinking of nothing but Ianto. Pathetic really. Spoilers for CoE, obviously.

This is basically me just venting, grieving, whatever. I really have no idea what happened in series 3 other than Ianto karked it (AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW (still waiting for it to come out in the US), SO DON'T TELL ME! Seriously, if I find the person who updated Ianto's wikipedia page I will tear you limb from limb and maybe shoot you a couple times over. Be afraid. Very afraid). I'm not even going to pretend that this is some masterpiece because it's not (it's my first serious Janto fic and I'm rubbish at writing in fandoms because, being the anal retentive person I am, if I can't get the characterizations down perfectly, I just give up). I could carry on with it (I'm not happy with the huge time jump at the end but I cringe at the idea of trying to drag it out and write more.), but I won't because started out as a little drabble and grew into something more than 1300 words long.
